Temperatures are very mild during the winter months which make this area an ideal place for a winter siesta from the cold weather in the northern United States. Orlando, Florida
No destination screams “family fun” louder than Orlando, Florida. Though perhaps more famous for its local residents at Walt Disney World, Orlando is a hot-spot for golf in the southern United States. Golf is certainly no stranger to this area. There are several fantastic golf courses that are open for the public to play. One of the most famous is the Bay Hill Golf Course. Designed by Arnold Palmer and host to an annual PGA Tour event, this golf course is a must-play when you visit Orlando. Lake Nona, World Woods and The Disney golf courses are other courses that capture golf enthusiasts the world over.
Bandon, Oregon
Bandon, Oregon is a sea-side community located in southern Oregon. This city has all the amenities you would expect from a vacation area. Windsurfing, 4-wheeling, and hiking are all favorite activities of the local population. Golf has made a lasting impression by adding Bandon Dunes to the line-up of golf courses in the area. There are three golf courses on the property and the latest is the Ben Crenshaw collaborative design called Bandon Trails. All of these golf courses give the player a feel for playing the Scottish links that have come to define traditional golf.
San Diego, California
San Diego, California is one of the most exciting destinations on the planet. Home to the world famous theme park, SeaWorld, San Diego is a great place to lie in the sun and enjoy the beach. Maui, Hawaii
Of all the islands in the Hawaiian chain, none is more lush and beautiful than the island of Maui. Maui is the second largest island in the chain and home to vast pineapple fields. There are many different landscapes on this island ranging from tropical forests to snow-capped mountains. In the morning you can bike from the cool top of a volcano and in the afternoon you can snorkel in the warm ocean water.
When it comes to tropical golf courses, Maui is home to some of the best. The Kapalua Resort is home to several world-class golf courses including the Plantation course, which has hosted the Mercedes Championship on the PGA Tour. There are so many golf courses to choose from it would be tough to play them all in one visit. On the opposite side of the island are the Resort of Wailea Gold and Emerald golf courses.
Pinehurst, North Carolina
The Pinehurst Resort is located in south central North Carolina. There are over 40 golf courses located within a short drive of this resort. On Resort property there are eight world-class golf courses designed by some of the top names in the industry. Donald Ross, Tom Fazio and Rees Jones have all designed golf courses here. The most famous of these courses is the Number 2, which was designed by Donald Ross. Course No. 2 has held more championship golf tournaments than any other golf course in the country.
Palm Springs, California
Palm Springs, California has historically been a popular vacation spot for celebrities and the wealthy. With mild temperatures and over 100 golf courses in the area, there are many good reasons why this is a virtual celebrity Mecca. The PGA Tour visits this desert oasis every year for the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic. This golf tournament uses several golf courses in the area including PGA West, Bermuda Dunes and La Quinta Country Club. Lined with towering palm trees and lush desert landscape, Palm Springs provides a real California experience.
Dallas, Texas
Located in eastern Texas, Dallas-Fort Worth is home to legendary golfer Lee Trevino. Players from Texas are known for their abilities to play in high wind conditions. This part of Texas is dry and frequently has a lot of wind. The oil industry was a major economic source for the area and was made famous by the Television series Dallas. Dallas is home to some of the greatest sports teams that have ever played. The Dallas Cowboys are a favorite of local residents and people from all over the country.
Major Championship golf has visited this area many times in the past. Colonial Country Club is one of the most difficult golf courses in the country and has hosted the U.S. Open Championship several times. In addition, each year Colonial Country Club has hosted the PGA Tour for the Colonial National Invitational. Another golf course the Tour plays each year is the TPC at Los Colinas. This golf course was designed by Jay Morrish with player consultants Byron Nelson and Ben Crenshaw.
Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
Myrtle Beach, South Carolina has an extremely high density of golf courses in a small area. This area has been referred to as the “Golf Capital of the United States.” Designers like Greg Norman, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer and Robert Trent Jones have all built golf courses in the Myrtle Beach area. Myrtle Beach has several family amusement parks that can occupy the non-golfers of the family during your golf outings each the day. Coeur D'Alene, Idaho
Coeur d’Alene, Idaho burst onto the golf map recently when the Coeur d’Alene Resort Golf Course opened in 1991. Set along the banks of Lake Coeur d’Alene, this golf course meanders through the ancient pines and dense forests that border the lake. The most dramatic feature of this golf course, besides the scenery, is the floating green on the 14th hole. The green on this hole moves daily and is positioned in the lake, a boat ferries the players out to the green.
