West Virginia Golf Courses

West Virginia is known for the many outdoor activities that draws numerous tourists each year. Rock climbing, hunting, fishing and whitewater rafting are just some of the activities that can be found in the beautiful state. The New River Gorge is one of the state's hot spot for whitewater rafting.
If rafting is not your thing, you need to check out the Lost World's Caverns. This cave system is 120 feet below the earth's surface and features some of the most beautiful stalactites and stalagmites. This is fun trip that the whole family will enjoy. The caves can be explored in about 45 minutes, but there are other tours that can take as long as 4 hours to explore the furthest reaches of the cave.
West Virginia has the distinction of having the oldest golf course in the United States, The Greenbrier Resort. The Greenbrier Resort was first opened in 1778 and is located in White Sulfur Springs. People were attracted to this resort because of the sulfur water that is the main feature of the resort. There are three golf courses on the property, The Old White, The Greenbrier and The Meadows. Jack Nicklaus redesigned The Greenbrier course in 1977.
