Texas has long been known as a leader in the energy field. With the vast oil fields, Texas was a leader in supplying the country with much of its oil needs. After the collapse of this great industry Texas was forced into diversifying its economy. With this in mind in 2006 Texas was home to more Fortune 500 Companies than any other state in America.

Texas has a long history and with it comes many important sites which have shaped American history. Among these site is the Alamo, located in San Antonio, TX. Millions of visitor each year visit the site on which a small band of Texans lasted 13 days against the daunting army of Mexico. This sight is a symbol of the courage and fortitude of the early settlers that made our nation great.

Golf has very strong roots in Texas. Some of the greatest golfers of all time have come from this large state. Most notably are Ben Hogan, Ben Crenshaw and Justin Leonard just to name a few. Texas is known for its windy conditions. All of these great men have honed their games to play golf in the wind. Many of the golf courses in Texas have been designed to allow for running shots into the greens. The average player should expect to find dry, hard conditions on the golf courses.

One of the best courses in Texas is Avery Ranch Golf Club. This par 72 golf course plays to over 7,100 yards. Several times this course has been named the Best Golf Course in Central Texas. During the construction of this course the designers took careful consideration of the aesthetics of the golf course. They incorporated some impressive stone work that borders most of the streams that run next to several holes.
