With a past that has been influenced by many different traditions, New Mexico has a strong Latin influence on its culture. Located in the southwest portion of the United States this area was once owned by the Mexican government. The land was eventually given to the United States in order to end hostilities during the Mexican-American war. During the first two weeks of October the skies come alive with color during the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta.
