The Brute: A Golf Course That Packs A Punch

Wisconsin Golf Reviews

bruteThe Grand Geneva Resort & Spa is located in the heart of some of the best dairy land in the country. But when you visit the Brute course at the Geneva Resort don't expect to find any cows grazing on these greens. The greens on the Brute course average over 8,000 square feet with lots of undulations and are usually in great condition, making for some of the best golf in Wisconsin. In 2006 this golf resort was awarded the prestigious Silver Medal by Golf Magazine for the 9th year in a row.

The Brute course is long and has fairways that are surrounded by trees. If you happen to hit your ball into these dense forest you may find yourself fighting a chipmunk to get your ball back. This golf course measures over 7,000 yards from the back tees and is a stark contrast to the more friendly Highlands course.

From the tee the Brute course is fairly straight-forward but the approach shots into the greens will keep you on your toes. There are very few holes where you can miss a shot and have it roll onto the greens. More likely you will find yourself at the bottom of a pond or being blinded by the sun reflecting off the sand in a bunker.

Nine of the eighteen holes on this golf course have water hazards that come into play. (Did I forget to mention that this part of the country is also known for an over-abundance of lakes?) Some of the holes feature full-sized lakes and others just tease you with a stream running down or across the length of the hole.

The longest par-4 on the golf course is the difficult 18th hole. This hole measures 464 yards and has a water hazard running down the entire right-hand side. If a huge lake on the right wasn't enough, there are also three large bunkers on that side that further intimidate players with a slice. (Fortunately most golfers don't slice the ball.)

The Brute course, along with the Highlands course, makes the Geneva Resort and Spa a great location to spend a golfing vacation. The two championship golf courses here will appeal to any skill level of golfer.
