Bunkers At The Bog Golf Club

Having played a number of golf courses designed by Arnold Palmer, it was obvious to me that he was testing his skills at bunker-making when he designed The Bog Golf Club. There is only one hole that has no bunkers and the rest are filled with numerous traps to catch off line shots. The Bog Golf Club is located in the eastern part of Wisconsin.
The Bog is built around a wetland area that includes thick forests and tall grass that can easily grab your ball. Don't expect to find many straight holes on this golf course, as doglegs are the order of business. Palmer was able to use the natural landscape to force players to work the ball. This is refreshing in a time when length is often viewed as more important than ball striking.
This considered, the golf course is still very long and plays over 7,200 yards from the back tees. To give you a feel for the bunkering on this golf course, Palmer put 20 bunkers on the first hole alone. If you manage to miss all of these bunkers while playing this hole, give yourself a pat on the back . . . you've earned it!
Many of the tee shots on this golf course are not difficult but are made more intimidating by the surrounding bogs and thick stands of trees. The golf course is long on the scorecard but the doglegs will dramatically reduce the distance of many of the holes. Keeping the ball in the fairway is the most important part of playing this golf course well.
Typically, Arnold Palmer is known for designing very player-friendly golf courses, but this layout will challenge even the best golfer. There are several forced carries, several holes with water, and elevation changes that keep the golfer interested. Many times when playing an Arnold Palmer golf course, you can cruise around on auto-pilot, but that is definitely not the case here.
This golf course will require playing it a couple of times to know when you should take a risk and when it is prudent to play conservatively. The golf course is usually in great condition with large, undulating greens.
Wisconsin has several well-known golf courses in the state that can run upwards of $200 a round, but The Bog is very reasonably priced at less than $100. If you are looking for some great Wisconsin golf, take the time to check out this classic golf course.
