Johnny Miller is one of the most famous golfers to ever come out of the state of Utah. Although he wasn't born there, the state tends to claim him based on the fact that he went to BYU. In 1997 Johnny Miller set out on the daunting task of designing the Thanksgiving Point Golf Club. Measuring at over 7,700 yards and spread out on over 200 acres this is the largest golf course in the state of Utah.

Thanksgiving Point is located in Lehi and uniquely blends the mountainous desert landscape with lush gardens that dot the golf course. The fairways and greens are always in great condition and the length will keep you honest off the tee. This golf course used to host the Champions Challenge. This father/son tournament has seen the likes of Jack Nicklaus, Johnny Miller and Lee Trevino compete for the top prize. Not many golf courses in the state can list a resume of players to compare with that.

If you don't have much time and are just passing through you might want to try Wingpointe Golf Club, located very close to the Salt Lake City Airport. This golf course was designed by Arthur Hills and is set in a Scottish links style. The golf course can play long at over 7,100 yards but the grounds crew keeps the fairways in great condition so the ball will roll a good distance. This is a shot-maker's golf course that requires accuracy off the tee in order to score well. The fairways are surrounded by long grass that might make it difficult to find a stray ball.

Southern Utah is a barren desert and the golf courses in this area reflect this design style. One of the best golf courses in the area is Coral Canyon Golf Club located in Washington, UT near St. George. St. George has a climate that is similar to Las Vegas, with hot summer days and mild winter temperatures. Coral Canyon was designed by Keith Foster and he has blended the golf course seamlessly into the desert landscape.

Utah is a large state that has a diverse landscape that provides for dramatic views. No matter what type of golf course you are looking for, Utah has something for everyone.
