The Masters: Tiger's Playground

PGA Tour

augustaDuring the middle of April the best players in the world will tee it up for an incredible $7,000,000 and a Green Jacket. The Masters has long been one of the most popular tournaments on the PGA Tour schedule mainly because it is the first Major Championship of the year.

Last year the players saw the golf course at its harshest as Zach Johnson tied the highest winning score ever at the golf tournament, 1-over par. This year Tiger Woods is on a tear and has already won all but one tournament that he has entered. He is playing such great golf it is hard to believe that he will not continue his winning ways and win his 5th Masters tournament.

Should he win the event it will place him only one Masters win behind the legendary Jack Nicklaus. Already this year we have seen Tiger pass Arnold Palmer and tie Ben Hogan on the-all time wins list. Currently he is third on this list.

There are other players who are snapping at his heels and could pose a challenge to wearing another Green Jacket. I think the most daunting threat will come from Vijay Singh. He has been playing some of the best golf of the year and he is already a Masters Champion. Last year he finished T13 under some of the most difficult conditions in recent years. If he has an on putting week, he has a great chance at wearing the Green Jacket.

One of the most exciting changes to this year's event will be that the Par-3 contest will be televised nationally for the first time. This is a great chance to see the top players in a more relaxed and fun environment. During the tournament players tend to be stiff and focused but this should let the fans see a whole new side to some players. Certainly there are glimpses of humor in events like the Skins Game, but this will be a unique opportunity to see the Par-3 course at Augusta National and how the players handle it.
