This year the US Senior Open will be taking place at the Broadmoor Golf Club located in beautiful Colorado Springs, Colorado. With three golf courses at the resort, this is the perfect place to spend the week watching some of the best senior golfers in the country compete for a USGA title.

During the summer months Colorado has some of the most beautiful weather in the country. Temperatures usually range between 75-85 degrees and the wind doesn't blow very often. These comfortable temperatures and fantastic golf course conditions make Colorado Springs the perfect place to host the US Senior Open. The Broadmoor is a great golf course that was designed by Donald Ross and for the 2008 Championship will stretch as far as 7,300 yards, quite a length for the senior golfers. The one saving grace for the seniors is that the golf course sits at over 6,400 ft above sea level. This will help the ball to travel farther than normal.

Colorado Springs is also home to the world famous Air Force Academy. Every year a select group of young students are admitted into this prestigious university. Applicants must be recommended to the Academy by a United States Congressman and submit to a term of military service after graduation. In honor of the dedication of the military troops, Wednesday, July 30 has been designated as Military Day at the 2008 US Senior Open.

On this day, with proper identification, military personnel will receive free admission to the Wednesday practice round, a voucher for a free lunch and a discount for tournament merchandise. What a wonderful way to experience the excitement and glory of a senior major championship.

Also on this day Dennis Walters will be performing his inspiring golf show. I have had the opportunity to see him perform in South Florida, and some of the things he does with a golf club are simply amazing. Dennis Walters has lost the use of his legs and performs the entire show on a cart that is specially built for handicap golfers.

If you are planning a trip to the Colorado Springs area, there are a few other golf courses besides the Broadmoor that you will want to check out. The Pine Creek Golf Course is a gem that is situated in a master-planned community in Colorado Springs. This golf course was designed by Richard Phelps who has been the author of some of the greatest tracks in Colorado. This golf course will test both your mental and physical abilities. This golf course can range from 5,400 to over 7,000 yards in length.

If you are looking for a links-style of golf course, then the Springs Ranch Golf Club is the place to be. Most of the golf courses in Colorado have fairways and holes that are framed by huge pines, but this unique links-style golf course has a distinct absence of trees. This golf course was designed by Dick Phelps and measures to 7,100 yards from the back tees. Fortunately there are only three holes on this golf course where water comes into play.
