Niagara Falls Golf

For those of you who do not live in the desert, don’t take the lush green that surrounds you for granted. As we were about to land on a early morning in June in Buffalo, I knew I was going to enjoy my trip. With just a short 45 minute drive to The Oakes Hotel in Niagara Falls I took in every tree, bush, and river view. My first impression of Niagara Falls is that it is a big, small town. It's very easy to get around and has everything you need. From high end dining to your regular chain restaurants, Niagara Falls, Canada has it all.
As I walked into my room I was mesmerized by one of the greatest views of the Falls. After relaxing in front of that grea view we decided to research the nightlife. I realized that this town can accommodate not only groups of men or women, but it's also a great destination to take your significant other. Night Clubs and Bar/Lounges are within walking distance, and if you are looking for a romantic restaurant, simply walk outside of The Oakes Hotel and catch the free shuttle to Remingtons of Niagara Falls - an excellent choice for Steak.
Now for the most important part . . . Golf in Niagara Falls. We started at Grand Niagara which is about 20 minutes from the hotel. I was not to sure what to expect from any of the golf courses we were about to play. I had heard good reviews about the golf courses, and I can now say that they lived up to them. Grand Niagara has some great tree line holes, greens that hold, and perfectly manicured fairways and bunkers. There were some holes that were player-friendly and some gave very little margin for error. My group played from the whites, it was the perfect challenge for a 20 handicapper.
For our second 18 of the day we made it over to the Legends to play Usshers Creek. The first thing you notice is the beautiful clubhouse that can hold over 200 people easily. They have a great practice facility to start your day and a nice lounge to end it. This golf course had some of the best hole designs I have seen. The use of the creek that meanders through the course was great. Almost every green had a creek running right before it.
After another night of investigating the night life we were back at 36 holes starting at Hunters Point. I have golfed almost every golf course in Las Vegas – but they are nothing compared to this golf course. It is a true links-style golf course. From the fescue lining the fairways to the 30 mph winds blowing, it was a challenge getting to the greens. Once you got to the green, however, the challenge didn’t end. The greens were probably the best out of all four courses we played - they rolled very fast and true. Holes 9 and 18 were two of the best water holes I have played.
The last course we played was Peninsula Lakes. This was the perfect golf course to end our 36-hole-a-day vacation. The course was very well manicured and allowed you to spray the ball a little bit. The 27-hole property had plenty of trees and a couple of good water holes. If you are the type that sprays the ball a little bit I would highly recommend this course.
As far as a golf destination is concerned, this area has something for everyone. From the golf course to the restaurants to the night life, it was a great overall experience. I honestly could not give you one complaint about my Niagara Falls Golf trip.
