SienaSiena Golf Club is taking the time to give back to the community with a new Hole-in-One Challenge being offered. This unique system is currently only being offered at one golf course in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Hole in One Challenge gives you the opportunity to win fantastic prizes and help out a wonderful cause at the same time. The cost of participating in the contest is $5.00 and will benefit the Children's Miracle Network. This optional fee will be charged when you check in with the golf shop. At that time you will be given a ticket that has an ID code to enter into the kiosk on the 7th hole.

The 7th hole is a great par-3 that can measure anywhere from 151-194 yards. If you happen to be one of the lucky players to score a hole-in-one, you will have your choice of either $10,000 cash or a 1-year lease on a BMW. The hole uses a specially designed flag stick that doubles as a tape measurer. If you hit your ball within two feet of the hole, you will receive a $100 Gift Certificate good at the Siena Golf Club pro shop.

"I'm looking forward to having the Hole in One Challenge in place for the upcoming winter season" says Thom Blinkinsop, PGA General Manager of Siena Golf Club. This new system will add a further dimension of fun to the average round of golf. Blinkinsop also indicated that The Arroyo Course at Red Rock Country Club would be putting in a similar system on their 7th hole.

One thing that I like about this Challenge is that no one is out on the 7th hole trying to hustle money from you, everything is handled inside the golf shop. I always find it a little bit distracting when there is a fund-raiser taking place on the golf course. I understand the need for organizations like junior golf to raise money but I think there must be a better way to accomplish the same goal. This new system at Siena Golf Club is the perfect alternative.

The equipment is relatively inexpensive and does not require anyone to be present on the tee. The three cameras that are positioned around the green and tee will record all the action. This ensures that no one can cheat. If this program turns out to be successful for Siena Golf Club, I would anticipate seeing similar systems at other golf courses in the future.

SienaLast week I had the opportunity to play a round of golf at Siena. It's always been one of my favorite golf courses in Las Vegas. I was curious to see how the golf course was holding up under the stifling heat we have been experiencing in recent weeks. Usually the golf course is able to maintain quick greens and great fairways and in this hot desert afternoon we'll be able to challenge that theory. The first thing I noticed when I got to my ball in the middle of the first fairway was their excellent conditions. There was not a blade of grass out of place! Usually golf courses in Las Vegas let the grass grow longer during the summer months to keep it from burning out, but that was not the case this day. It didn't appear that the ground had been overly watered and I was pleasantly surprised.

The rest of the fairways were in the same superb condition. The greens were not as fast as I have seen them in the past, but this actually helped when putting on these undulating greens. If you hit the ball in the wrong spot on these greens you can be left with an 80-90 foot putt that will have a tremendous amount of break.

Between the excellent conditions and the new Hole-in-One charity event, you will find a worthwhile golf experience at Siena Golf Club.
