Las Vegas Paiute Resort

Hello Golfers world wide, this is Uncle Harry (U.H.) again, a 13 handicapper writing about another fine golf course in Las Vegas. I write this for you, the golfer planning a golf vacation to Las Vegas. This review is written as I, the average golfer sees a golf course. not as a professional golfer or professional writer. This week the golf course is the Las Vegas Paiute, located 30 minutes north of Las Vegas. The golf course is located on Native American land, and from the moment you drive in you feel you are on sacred ground. The golf courses are like an oasis in the desert. The very green fairways contrasting with the desert and the Spring Mountains and Sheep Mountain range in the background.
Las Vegas Paiute has three 18 hole courses, Sun Mountain 6631 yards, Snow Mountain 6645 yards, and The Wolf at 7009, these yardages are not from the tips, but the championship tee boxes. You can subtract approx. 600 yards for each golf course if you play from the regular tee boxes.
The Las Vegas Paiute Resort Snow Mountain golf course' number one hole is a 418 yard par 4 with a downhill fairway. Fairly wide fairway, but fairway bunkers are reachable. Closing hole is 387 yard par 4 dogleg left with water tee to green on the left. Don't be short on your approach shot as the green is guarded by a pot bunker. If you go in there, just remember U.H. warned you.
Las Vegas Paiute Wolf golf course opens with a 382 yard par 4. It doesn't seem long until you have to hit your approach shot to an elevated green. You will be sailing along on an adventurous outing on the Wolf until you get to number 15, a par 3 playing at 98 to 182 yards depending on your choice of tee box. It is an island green and if you are fortunate to hit the green (allowing for wind direction and wind velocity); you still have to putt on a 3 tiered green. Wolf closes with a 428 yard dog leg right, with water all the way on the right side of the fairway. A little lee way is given to you as the hole plays down hill. The greens are fast, and after a hole or two you should get used to the speed.
The practice putting green will prepare you for the speeds that you will encounter. So instead of wearing your self out hitting ball after ball on the range, devote some time to putting.
In this article I have not discussed the rough the fairways are generous enough, but not wide enough to make it too easy. If you happen to land in the rough, it is about 2 to 4 inches of knarly grass. Don't try to be a hero and hit a long iron out of there, best to use a lofted iron 8 thru PW and get back to the fairway....get on in three and try to one putt to save par (assuming a par 4). During your outing take advantage of the services of Tracy, Kim, Lisa and Fawn. They provide refreshments during your round...serving the coldest beer in the Las Vegas valley.
When you finish your round you can enjoy your lunch or beverage on the veranda or in the Cigar Room watching the players on Snow Mountain hole 18. See the splashes as they play the par 4 425 yard dog leg left with water tee to green. As you watch the action you can say "Is this a great country or what?" This is U.H. (former B-52 crew member) saying, have fun and listening out.
