Highland Falls Golf Course Review

Tucked away in Northwest Las Vegas (also known as Summerlin), lies a wonderful golf course with some amazing holes and amazing scenery. When first arriving at Highland Falls you might be a little bit skeptical of what awaits you. It is in the heart of a senior citizen community called Sun City Summerlin. But what you will find on this golf course will challenge even the most young at heart. Not only is everything kept in excellent shape, but the fairways are tight, the greens are receptive, and the staff is very friendly and knowledgeable.
One of my favorite parts of this golf course is the diversity of the golf holes. I didn't find myself hitting any of the same clubs into the par 3's and I'm not sure I had any of the same shot twice the whole round. Every facet of your game can be tested if you stray from the monotony of hitting every fairway and green. Luckily I was paired with two members who could advise me on the few blind shots that await you from the tee.
The signature hole would be the 16th, a par 5 which starts with a blind tee shot down the hill to a fairway separated in the middle by a fifty-yard expanse of rocks and bushes to catch all the long drivers. The second shot is risk-reward because going for the green puts three bunkers, a water hazard, and out-of-bounds on both sides, into play. The smart play would be a short iron followed by another short iron to the green to collect your easy birdie or par. For the gambler, the long downhill second shot to the green can get you in big trouble or put you in excellent position to finish your round strong with an eagle or birdie. Unfortunately being too bold can also lead to a big number that can halt your solid round of golf, just like my double-bogie 7 did to mine.
The golf course itself is great but the best part about Highland Falls would be the scenery. Every inch of the Las Vegas Valley is viewable from one of the tee boxes at Highland Falls. As you meander through the back nine, the views become more and more spectacular. And if you are lucky enough to be finishing up around sunset, you can look out over downtown Vegas just as all of the casino lights are beginning to come to life. The golf at Highland Falls is affordable, but the breathtaking views are priceless.
