Player-Friendly Golf At The Las Vegas Paiute Resort

With three golf courses to choose from at the Las Vegas Paiute Resort it is not hard to see why this is one of the most popular golf resorts in Las Vegas. Pete Dye has produced some of his best work at this desert complex. As you drive into the clubhouse, you may perceive that no expense has been spared in giving the players the best possible golf experience. The staff is extremely friendly and waits to pick your clubs up from the bag drop and bring them to the back of the clubhouse.
The clubhouse is large and divided into two sections - the golf shop and the restaurant. Each is on one side of an immense foyer that connects the two. This is a great spot to get your group together or score for your tournament.
The Sun Mountain Course at the Las Vegas Paiute is the second of the three championship golf courses built at the Resort. This is said to be the most player-friendly golf course of its companions, the Snow Mountain and Wolf Courses. That being said, it really is tough to imagine that Pete Dye could design anything that is a push-over.
The first hole on the golf course is the longest par-4 on the front side. The tee shot must be placed between two bunkers that guard both sides of the fairway. A good aiming point would be the bunker on the left hand side of the fairway. For most players it will be very hard to reach this bunker or even drive the ball into the desert area.
If you do happen to pull your ball left you have a side hill lie into a medium sized green. Usually this will leave a long to mid iron into the green. The greens on this golf course are tough to hit although they are quite large. The slopes on the greens tend to feed the ball away from the holes. Take care when playing toward pins that are tucked toward the edges of the greens.
There is much less water on this golf course than on the others at the Las Vegas Paiute. Only three holes force the player to carry water. On one of those holes, the water is close to the tee and shouldn't really come into play. The par-3's on this golf course are fairly straight-forward and only one has water that you will need to carry. The 4th hole is the most difficult par-3 on the Sun Mountain Golf Course.
As you make your way around the golf course, it will become apparent that there are great oppotunities to shoot low. Most of the par-5's can be reached in two shots with good drives and several of the par-4's are very short. The greens on this golf course have fewer bunkers protecting them and make for easily accessible pins.
The conditions of the Sun Mountain Course are up to the standards of the Las Vegas Paiute Resort. In fact, you will hardly find a blade of grass out of place. With three golf courses on the property, this property is very popular during the overseeding time in Las Vegas as one of the courses is always in good shape.
Although short on the card, the 18th hole is not one to take lightly. If the wind is blowing, as it often does here in the desert, it will make the hole that much more difficult. The best place to aim on this hole, off the tee, is toward the bunkers on the right side of the fairway. The tough shot on this hole is the second shot. For some reason the water seems to be a little more fierce than on other holes. Perhaps because the pin is often placed on the left side of the green right next to the water. There is no bail out area to the left here, so miss the ball right if you have the choice. A par on this hole is a great score.
If you are looking for a Pete Dye golf course that is not overly tough, look no further than the Sun Mountain Course at the Paiute Golf Club. Always in good condition, this course provides the full Pete Dye experience in a much more friendly environment, complete with railroad ties in the bunkers.
