Siena Golf Club A Great Choice For Golf In Las Vegas

Deep bunkers, water features and smart design make Siena Golf Club a popular choice for golf in Las Vegas.
Siena Golf Club opened in 1999 as the featured golf course in the age-restricted community of Siena in Las Vegas. In its original conception, the golf course at Siena needed to be built to accommodate the retired community. With this in mind Schmidt-Curley produced a golf course that can easily be played by golfers of any age. Like many golf courses built within housing communities, the golf course at Siena weaves it way between homes that line the fairways, but in this design, there is lots of room for the golfer to miss the ball. The houses have been built back from the fairways to give the golfer space, leaving them with one of the best golf experiences to be found in the Las Vegas Valley.
Today, Siena Golf Club is one of the popular choices for corporate and convention groups as well as golf enthusiasts who are seeking weekend golf trips to Las Vegas. The bunkers and water features are the main attraction at Siena Golf Club, the design team at Shmidt-Curley have lended "a bit of Scotland" here as well.
The fairway bunkers at Siena Golf Club, can be extremely difficult to play out of if you happen to hit your ball into one. The sixth hole is a perfect example of this, at 405 yards, this hole plays entirely uphill, making it the most crucial of the front nine. There are two bunkers located down the right side that must be avoided at all costs. If you happen to hit your ball into one of them you will be chipping your ball back out into the fairway. These bunkers are very deep and will not allow the golfer to hit a medium or long iron out of them.
On many of the holes Schmidt-Curley presents several options off the tee. It is up to the golfer to assess these options and weigh their own skill and bravado to make the best choice. A good example of this is the par-4 11th hole. Playing at only 350 yards, this golf hole is one of the shortest on the course. Some of the longer hitters might try going for the green off the tee. This is a risky shot as the green sits well above the fairway and a steep slope guards the front of the green. Bunkers surround this green like sentinels defending a stronghold.
The 18th hole is a great finishing hole. This medium-length par-4 requires a tee shot that is placed down the left side of the fairway. The fairway slopes to the right, so any shot hit left will bounce back into the fairway. A good aiming point is the lone tree on the left side. Be sure to avoid the bunkers on the right, they are very deep and eliminate any shot of reaching the green in regulation.
This hole has a water hazard that starts at the front of the green and wraps around it. Once again Schmidt-Curley use water in the desert to intimidate the golfer. If the superintendent is not feeling well, he will place the pin in the back right corner of this green. This is a dangerous shot as any miss-hit shot will catch a large slope and run into the water. Try for the middle of the green, no matter where the pin is, to leave this hole with a par.
The greens Siena Golf Club are straight from the playbook of Schmidt-Curley. They are large and have lots of undulations on them. Typically, these are some of the fastest greens in Las Vegas and club selection becomes vital.
