Bear's Best Atlanta- Very Forgiving Off The Tee

Bear's Best Atlanta is located in the upscale housing development of Edinburgh in Suwanee, Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta. This golf course is located very close to the major convention and tourist areas of the city. It has become a very popular golf course for business travelers and conventions in the area. This golf course is ranked among the "Top Ten Courses You Can Play in America" by Golf Magazine.
Bear's Best Atlanta was designed by Jack Nicklaus and includes 18 holes from some of the more than 200 golf courses he has designed and is a sister course to Bear's Best Las Vegas in Nevada. As Ian Grimwade explains, " The basic path was laid out and then Mr. Nicklaus hand-selected the holes that would make up the golf course. The golf course is a combination of Bermuda grass on the fairways and G2 Bent grass on the greens. The condition of the golf course is up to the high standards golfers have come to expect from a Nicklaus Signature golf course.
Bear's Best Atlanta is quite forgiving off the tee, the wide fairways give golfers of all skill levels a chance to play the golf course. There is one common hole between both of the current Bear's Best golf courses. This is the second hole from the Old Works Golf Club in Anaconda, Montana. In Atlanta, this hole measures 387 yards from the back tee. The green is not visible from the tee and the player is forced to hit a blind shot.
From the tee you will want to aim toward the left side of the fairway and let the ball fade toward the green. This will leave a short iron into this medium sized green. The most distinctive feature of this hole is the black sand that is used in the bunkers. This sand is a byproduct of the copper smelting process and is used on the original Montana course.
Unlike many Nicklaus-designed golf courses, Bear's Best Atlanta features smaller greens. They still have plenty of undulations but the greens are not as vast as many found on his other designs. Most of the golf holes on this golf course were taken from areas of the world that are lush and tree-lined.
The 11th hole is a perfect example of a classic Jack Nicklaus par-3. This hole was recreated from the Championship course at PGA National located in Florida. As such, this hole relies on water and sand to intimidate the player. At Bear's Best Atlanta this hole plays 193 yards and must carry a water hazard that is in front of and to the right of the hole.
Nicklaus had a talent for hitting soft, high iron shots. The green on this hole is not very wide and requires a high shot to hold the green. The best place to miss the ball is to the left but there is a bunker that will capture any errant shots. If you find this bunker you will be left with a difficult bunker shot that plays back toward the water.
This golf course has a very international flavor with several holes coming from the British Isles. Bear's Best Atlanta plays slightly over 7,000 yards from the back tee and will delight golfers from all parts of the world. The design style of Jack Nicklaus can clearly be seen as you make your way around the golf course. Wide fairways, tough greens and the need to hit high and soft approach shots will all be present here.
