celebrationFlorida is known for two things: Disneyworld and more golf courses than any other state. Anyone who is planning a trip to golf would certainly have to consider spending some time in the Sunshine State. No matter what type of golf course you enjoy playing you will find something to quench your pallet.

For families that are traveling, no place is more appropriate than Orlando. This has become the family entertainment capital of the world. Who can argue with the fun and excitement that can be provided by the Walt Disney World Resort. Here you will not only find the Magic Kingdom but three other equally amusing parks are located on this property, the newest of which is the fantastic Animal Kingdom park.

The Animal Kingdom park is based on some of the most popular Disney movies that include A Bugs Life, Finding Nemo, Dinosaur and The Lion King. Kids of all ages will wonder at exploring the Tree of Life and the brand new roller coaster that explores the heights of Mt. Everest.

Located just a chip shot from the resort is the Celebration Golf Club which was designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr. and his son Robert Trent Jones, Jr. This golf course weaves its way through marshlands, bunkers and tall Florida pines, all of which makes this a true shot-makers golf course. Celebration Golf Club measures only 6,800 yards from the back tees but this number can be very deceiving.

The Celebration Golf Club has hosted the Florida State Public Links Championship which includes some of the best amateurs in the state of Florida. Most recently, John Daly played this golf course after missing his tee time at the Arnold Palmer Invitational this year. I recently had friends who played the golf course and they indicated the golf course was very player-friendly and off-line shots would often times be kicked back into play by the mounds that surround the fairways.

celebrationThe best weather in Florida is found during the winter, but the summer months can provide some of the best rates if you can handle the hot and humid weather. Playing golf in this special conditions requires lots of water and patience.

Another great facility in this area is the World Woods Golf Club located in Brooksville. If you have ever wanted to play the Pine Valley Golf Club in New Jersey, the Pine Barrens Golf Course here in Brooksville was designed to replicate this popular layout. The Pine Barrens golf course plays to slightly over 6,900 yards and requires accurate tee and approach shots. The unique layout of this golf course includes large sand bunkers, waste areas and fairways that are lined with large pines that have a tendency to swallow golf balls.

Not to be outdone, the Rolling Oaks Golf Course at World Woods Golf Club gives you a very different feel. The soil on this side of the facility is better suited to growing giant moss-covered oak trees. Players have often remarked that Augusta National comes to mind when they are playing this golf course. The Rolling Oaks golf course, at 6,985 yards, is slightly longer than the Pine Barrens golf course.

With one of the best and most expansive practice facilities I have ever seen, this golf complex alone would provide a great variety of golf for an entire vacation. Both Orlando and Brooksville are located in the middle of the state so getting to the ocean would be a bit of a drive, but usually less than an hour. If you like the water it would be well worth the time to see the Atlantic Ocean from the Florida shores.
