California Golf Reviews

Every January the PGA Tour visits an oasis in the desert of California. Palm Springs is one of the most famous and wealthiest communities in the country. One of the focal points of this great community is golf - the PGA Tour annually host the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic on several golf courses in the area.

Now is the perfect time to start planning a trip to the area to watch a bit of the great golf and experience some spectacular golf of your own along the way. If you have never played golf in the desert you will certainly be in for a treat. The lack of trees and the desolate mountains make for a surreal backdrop to all of the area's golf courses.

If you are looking for a championship golf course that has a proven track record, look no further than the Trilogy Golf Club at La Quinta. From 2003-2006, this golf course was home to the PGA Tour Skins game every November. Playing at just over 6,900 yards, this Gary Panks-designed gem has something for every golfer - depending on which set of tees you play this golf course can be all you ever wanted. Gary Panks is a well-known desert golf course designer with many layouts in Arizona including the Grayhawk Golf Club Talon Course. This golf course is in great shape with fast greens and fairways.

Located in nearby Cathedral City is the Cimarron Golf Resort. This 36-hole facility features a long course that plays 6,858 yards and a short course that plays only 3,164 yards from the back tees. This is a great feature if you are playing with beginning golfers or just need a change of pace for yourself. Both golf courses are in great shape and were designed by John Fought. Unlike other golf courses in the area that feature wall-to-wall grass, at Cimarron Golf Resort these vast expanses of green are pierced by yellow and brown desert areas. Knowing the layout of the golf course will increase your chances of a fun round.

Palm Springs is full of wonderful and exciting things to do following your round of golf. There are numerous upscale restaurants and spas, along with numerous entertainment options. One such attraction is the Palm Springs Aerial Tram. This ride will take you 2 1/2 miles from the desert floor into the midst of Mt. San Jancito. When you reach the top you can enjoy hiking, mule rides or a world-class meal at the restaurant.

Palm Springs has great winter and spring weather which makes this a perfect family vacation option. Check out the availability for tee times during the PGA Tour event and spend a memorable week with your family and the professionals of the PGA Tour.
