The Boulders Golf ResortCarefree, Arizona is a bastion for great golf. Located just north of Phoenix, this small community has all the flavors of a wild west town and is home to some of the best golf courses in the state of Arizona.

Tucked away in Carefree, Arizona is the residential community of Desert Mountain, here golfers are treated to six Jack Nicklaus designed golf courses. The initial course Renegade hosted the Southwwest Section of the PGA of America's "Professional National Championship." The other golf courses at Desert Mountain include the Outlaw, Cochise, Geronimo, Apache and Chiricahua.

The Renegade Course at Desert Mountain has two flags on each hole, gold and white, the gold plays quite difficult and is primarily utilized by the more advanced golfer. For those who wish for a more relaxing yet still quite challenging play, I highly suggest the white flag - these are usually found placed on the larger greens and are more accessible than the the gold flag. "The two flag system is very popular with our members. It allows players of different abilities, to play the course and have a great time doing it." says Cameron Ludwig, Assistant Professional at Desert Mountain. One memorable hole on the back nine is a 230 yard par-3 that plays over water there is literally nowhere to miss the ball on this hole! You're either going to hit the green or the water.

The Boulders Golf Resort, ArizonaAnother great golf complex in Carefree, Arizona is The Boulders Resort. This five star resort is home to two world class golf courses, the North and South. Both golf courses are set amongst the mammoth boulders that dot the landscape in this part of Arizona. As you enter Boulders you become mesmerized by the large mountain of boulders at the center of the property, it almost appears as if the slightest breeze will start an avalanche of massive rocks and boulders onto the structures below.

Both golf courses were designed by Jay Morrish and fit perfectly within the Sonoran Desert. The Resort is also home to a state of the art Spa, the Golden Door Spa is the perfect place for the non-golfing members of your group to spend their afternoons as you play your round of golf.

Carefree, Arizona is just the perfect recipe for golfers looking for great golf and a relaxing atmosphere. There is never a tense moment once your clubs are on the back of the cart and you are heading down the first fairway.
